Overcomers Mentality
Believers in Christ are overcomers. An overcomer is the one who succeeds in dealing with or gaining control over a problem or difficulty. Overcomers in Christ; are followers of Christ, who successfully resist the power and temptation of the world’s system, both in words and action. An overcomer holds fast to faith in Christ until the end. We have the guarantee of Jesus that, if we are His, we will be able to endure to the end and His rewards will make it all worthwhile. The battle was won for us on Calvary, but our responsibility is to daily live as overcomers, recognizing that the world is a battleground, not a playground. So, this means that in order to become a Kingdom Conqueror we must be a World Overcomer.
How to Live as Overcomers in this World
1. Recognizes and Believe You Are an Overcomer
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”. 1 John 5:4-5
Thanks be to God…We are born of Him…We are overcomers in Christ Jesus. Jeremiah 1:19(NIV) says; “They will fight against you, but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.” As victorious fighter, we have the victory…not just on Resurrection Sunday, but every day. “But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57(Amp).
2. Always Have Confidence in God
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:4
According to Ephesians 6:10-18, the devil does not want us fighting the good fight of faith. That’s why we’re waging warfare against principalities, power and spiritual wickedness, because we have confidence in the authority God has given us. “In every battle, take faith as your wrap-around shield, for it is able to extinguish the blazing arrows coming at you from the Evil One!” Ephesians 6:16 (TPT) . As overcomers, we have all we need to overcome every trick or trap of the enemy…We have our faith (our confidence in God and His word).
3. Renew Your Mind Regularly.
Romans 12:2 – “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”.
Our mind is the place of intellect, reasoning, and intentions. It is where our spiritual transformation begins, and it is the first and favorite place the enemy messes with, in order to distract and disarm Christians. That is why we are admonish in the word to be renewing our mind.
Overcomers transform their life by allowing the Holy Spirit to landscape their minds through the studying of the Word of God. They enlighten their mind in order to be able to recognize the enemy, fight him with God’s power and with Scriptural truth.
4. Always Rely on the Holy Spirit
1 John 4:4 (NLT) - “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
Overcomers inner resource is always their outward strength, and the Holy Spirit is our inner resource -Our Source of Power. Overcoming daily requires complete dependence on God, for direction and strength to follow His plan for our lives. (Proverbs 3:5-6, 2 Corinthians 12:9). The Holy Spirit is always there to strengthens when we are overwhelmed by adversity. We have power through the Holy Spirit to overcome any attack of the enemy. Romans 8:35–39
5. Walking in The Spirit
As Overcomers, our first victory is our faith in Christ. 1 John 5:4; “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith”. But in order to successfully live as World Overcomers, we must add to our faith.
1 Peter 2: 5-10 - “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love…Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble”.
For Overcomers, faith is just the starting point, fruitful growth in faith is the next step. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16. To live as Overcomer in this world, we must walk in the virtues of the Holy Spirit, which is the Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control).
According to Galatians 5:16-26, Overcomers don’t try to live for Christ, because that is based on their own strength. But instead, they allow Christ to live through them to transform their world, by walking in the strength of the Holy Spirit. We can never rely on our own goodness, but we must constantly rely on the Lord to live through us.
“Now thanks be to God, Who ALWAYS CAUSES US TO TRIUMPH in Christ….” 2 Corinthians 2:14.
