Celebrating The Greatest Celebrity

Mathew 4:24 – “Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.”

When we think of the word celebrity”, what comes to mind is a famous name; a movie star, a sport person, recording artist, politician and so forth. But the fact still remains that they are just human beings and not different from everyday people that are celebrated when alive, but soon forgotten after death. JESUS is the real Celebrity. He is the epitome of success and fame; His power is absolute and His love is unsurpassed. His fame is universal; He has a name like no other and He is above all! He is the real Celebrity. The question now is, how should we celebrate the greatest Celebrity-Jesus Christ? How do we honor Him in a way that truly befits Him?

The answer can be found in the definition of the word celebrate. The dictionary defines the word “Celebrate” as “to extol or praise”, “to keep or observe”, and “to assign great social importance to”. These three definitions explain in a nutshell, how we should celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ.

First, we should celebrate Jesus by constantly Extolling His Praise. Psalm 147:1, “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful”. No matter what we are going through or how we feel, we should be like the psalmist, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth!” Lavish the Lord with praise and words of admiration. On a daily basis, we should let Him know just how much He means to us. He is the reason for our being, the essence of our life. Habakkuk 3:15-19, Psalm 34:1-3, 68:4.

Another way to celebrate Jesus is by Obeying Him. Obedience to Jesus Christ is the highest form of worship to our God. John 14:15 says “If you love me, obey my commandments”. We have to choose to love Jesus Christ enough to obey Him. In Luke 6:46; Jesus said to a group of people who seems to adore and celebrate Him, “But why do you call me Lord, Lord; and do not do the things which I say”. Many people want Jesus to be their Savior, but do not to make Him their Lord. Because, a Lord has the right to ask and expect obedience. Many hail Jesus as their Lord, they sing His praises – they claim to love and adore Him – yet they do not do what He says. Friends, Jesus is asking us the same question today. If He is really everything to us, let’s celebrate and show it by our acts of obedience! 1 John 5:2.

Finally, we can celebrate Jesus by Lifting Him High before men. Let our friends, family, employer, employees and co-workers know just how important and great He is. Psalm 96:1-3 – “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples”.

Those who truly celebrate Jesus are not ashamed to speak about His mercy, majesty and grace. Talk grandly and proudly about His marvelous works. Don’t be ashamed to preach the gospel. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile” (Romans 1:16- NIV). Celebrate Jesus by sharing His Love to a lost and needy world. Help others understand that Jesus came and paid the price that we might have life and have it in abundance!
